Meadow Grove Celebrates National Marshmallow Day

September 8, 2021
Throughout this past year, the social lives of our team, our community, and our residents have been flipped on its head. We know we are not the only location to say this pandemic has had a pretty massive impact on the activities we can provide for our folks. However, as the saying goes, following rain comes a rainbow (ours in sprinkle form)! We are making great strides to try and readjust new normalcy for our residents while living with COVID and having fun where we can!

Our activities department at Meadow Grove Transitional Care has been working hard to find new ways to keep our residents entertained while keeping them safe at the same time. Residents love to take part in activities that are hands-on and even better activities where they can eat the finished product. One of their favorite new activities is Food with Friends. Food with Friends is a group activity where residents get to come together and make tasty treats!

Last week in Food with Friends, our skilled nursing facility celebrated National Marshmallow Day! In this activity, we found colorful straws and placed a marshmallow on the end of them. Then, we coated the marshmallow in chocolate and decorated our tasty treats with an assortment of sprinkles! As you can tell from the pictures, eating these sweet treats was the highlight!

How Food with Friends Benefits Residents

Food with Friends is without a doubt a fan favorite at Meadow Grove for obvious reasons, but there are many additional skills and benefits that this fun-filled activity brings our residents. In this group setting, our folks are able to work on their social skills and laugh with their friends as we make delicious treats, and in the case of our marshmallow pops, a little bit of a mess as well. Small motor skills are utilized in this hands-on activity. With the guidance and direction of our team were able to attach the different parts and decorate their marshmallows individually. Food with Friends is also a great opportunity to strengthen our creative skills since everyone made their treat unique to them! All in all, it was such a fun experience, and so many silly memories were made.

Our staff at Meadow Grove has been so wonderful going above and beyond to keep our residents safe during these uncertain times. We are so blessed to have the team we do, and these sweet and sticky smiles help remind us that even amid craziness, we can always find a reason to smile. Happy National Marshmallow Day!
